Pupil Premium
What is the Pupil Premium Grant?
The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is funding given to schools to help close the attainment gap between children from low-income and other disadvantaged families and their peers. Pupil Premium Grant is primarily aimed at pupils who are from low-income families and are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM). This category now includes any child that has been registered for FSM in the past 6 years (known as ‘Ever 6’ FSM). This funding also covers Children Looked After (CLA), children adopted from care under the Adoption and Children Act 2002 and children who have left care under a Special Guardianship or Residence Order. Schools also receive a service premium for pupils whose parents either serve in the armed forces or are in receipt of a child pension from the ministry of Defence.
Careful analysis including: internal and external pupil- level data, historical attainment and progress rates is undertaken on an annual basis to ensure that the Pupil Premium Grant is used to maximum effect.
The report for Pupil Premium this year and the previous years are below.
PUPIL PREMIUM: THOMASSON MEMORIAL SCHOOL
ACADEMIC YEAR 2025-26 £35,380
The Premium is given to a diverse range of pupils. They do not conform to a group that requires one specific form of support but there are common activities that will enhance pupil development if they are delivered through a group activity.
The pupil’s main barrier to educational achievement is delayed linguistic development due to their hearing loss. They often communicate using sign and therefore require a very specialist input in order to develop their reading, writing and communication skills.
If family members do not develop signing skills in order to communicate with the child, this adds to their linguistic delay and can give rise to social and emotional difficulties. Our children may also have been diagnosed with medical conditions or assessed as having additional learning difficulties. Some have developed challenging behaviour in response to the social and emotional issues they have experienced. How this funding has impacted upon pupil progress is clearly detailed in the record of each child’s account. Impact may be measured by the attainment of certificates or grades, the achievement of levels of progress, the development of social skills or a more mature responses to emotional situations.
The Pupil Premium strategy is reviewed every year at the beginning of the academic year in order to ensure the most appropriate use is made of this financial allocation.
Activities undertaken will include:-
- Support from Pastoral Leader
- Writing Intervention
- Residential/extra curricular/Uniform
- Parental Support
The finance provided through the Pupil Premium is monitored at each Finance Committee Meeting and reported back to the Governing Body.
