Questionnaire
WHAT DO WE DO WITH THE RESPONSES?
At Thomasson we pride ourselves in working in partnership with our parents and carers. Once a year we ask parents and carers to complete a questionnaire about how their child is getting on at school. The vast majority of responses from our parents are extremely positive. We do however, appreciate open and honest responses and ensure any problems, issues or negative comments and feedback is addressed, so that the way we run our school and our work with parents improves further.

These are areas for improvements parents have raised:
- Currently no deaf role models and not many staff able to use BSL fluently
We have a number of staff who are deaf and are first language BSL users who work across the whole school and some who only work in either primary or secondary phase
- More connections between teachers and parents would ideal. Like parents, children trips with teachers, meeting up few time a year to a class room, talking to teachers and work they do.
All parents are offered a termly meeting with the class or form tutor/subject teachers and a yearly annual review. The school has an open door policy , parents can call and request to meet staff at a convenient time.
- Sometimes communication from school is given out quite late or not at all. Eg trips or special fundraising days. My child is not very reliable at giving me this information, despite being in secondary, so often I have to check with others.
We are aware that sometimes it is short notice with regards to trips, this can be often due to companies offering the trip to us at no cost but with a short notice period. We are trying are hardest to ensure parents have two weeks notice prior to any trip commencing.
- Please make reading a priority by letting secondary students have physical books given like primary students if it is feasible. Also does the school have a Library?
We have two libraries in school. All secondary pupils have a reading book of their choice in their bag which they read weekly with an adult.
- Would like to see BSL not SSE used with child more.
As a school when all the children are together, we use SSE, when on a 1:1 with a child we use their chosen mode of communication.
Please note that any comments or suggestions you make are taken seriously and acted upon. Thank you so much for taking the time to complete the questionnaire.
