RE KS3

KS3 Long Term Plan for RE
Parents and carers have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education (RE) lessons at our school. This right is set out in section 71(1) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, which states that schools must grant requests from parents/carers to withdraw their child, wholly or partly, from receiving religious education given in the school in accordance with the school’s basic curriculum.
Your rights as a parent or carer:
- You can request to withdraw your child from some or all RE lessons
- You don’t have to give a reason for your request
- The school must grant your request
What happens during withdrawal: If your child is withdrawn from RE, the school has a duty to supervise them but not to provide additional teaching that is not RE or incur extra cost. We cannot ask you to supervise your child if they’re withdrawn from RE.
School trips to places of worship: You also have a right to withdraw your child from any trip that is part of the RE curriculum.
How to discuss withdrawal with us: We want to make sure you’re aware of the RE syllabus and that it is relevant to all pupils and respects their own personal beliefs. We’re happy to give you the opportunity to discuss our RE curriculum so you can make an informed decision. If you would like to discuss your child’s participation in RE or wish to request withdrawal, please contact Mrs Chantal Smith – RE Leader
