Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance

To equip pupils with the knowledge, skills and understanding to navigate their future careers, fostering curiosity and ambition from an early age.

Evidence shows that children start to form ideas about their future as they start primary school. At Thomasson we understand the vital role that is played by primary schools in enabling children to have aspirations about their future, exploring how they can broaden their horizons, develop their skills & to enable them, and their families, to understand the future opportunities that are available and how they can reach their potential.

By linking lessons in an age-appropriate way to different careers, training and skills, our careers education inspires pupils to think about their future and the world of work. We also provide opportunities for pupils to meet employers and role models from a range of industries, helping to raise aspirations and link their learning to future skills, jobs and careers

Research shows that inspiring young people about the world of work needs to start at an early age as ideas about careers (including potentially-limiting stereotypes) are formed at a young age. (Drawing the Future Report, 2018)

It is vitally important that children learn about the world that they will encounter outside the school gates and how they can reach their true potential in the future.

Our Aims

  1. To instill key personal and employability qualities such as resilience, collaboration, and self-reflection
  2. To provoke curiosity about possible future careers
  3. To challenge stereotypes and assumptions, including those based on background, gender or diversity
  4. To enhance pupils’ understanding of educational pathways beyond age 11 and age 16
  5. To develop awareness of the attitudes, skills and behaviours needed for success in the workplace, and to enable meaningful encounters with real working environments

If you would like to share your professional expertise or come into school to talk with pupils about your role, please contact Miss Runcie through the school office.
