History Curriculum
At Thomasson, we aim to encourage our pupils to be curious about History. Through finding out about; how and why the world, our country, culture (including deaf culture), local community and school have developed over time. The pupils will understand how the past influences the present. History enables pupils to develop a context for their growing sense of identity and a chronological framework for their knowledge of significant events and people. We aim that they would know more about the past, to inspire curiosity and to value learning about the past – realising that as we learn we see where we have come from and why we are as we are. History helps pupils to gain a sense of their own identity within a social, political, cultural and economic background.
Throughout EYFS, the children are guided towards Understanding the World. The children are are given opportunities to understand the physical world and their community by exploring the recent past and the present.
In KS1 and KS2, History is taught every term for half a term in rotation with Geography.
