English

Students are at the centre of English at Thomasson, developing both their language skills and literary awareness. At KS3 we lay a foundation with reading for pleasure and students are given opportunities to develop their fundamental and creative writing skills. Drama lessons are also used to support the texts studied in English and students are given opportunities to be more active in their approach to modern literature and the classics.  Shakespeare is studied in every year and students are also required to express themselves using the power of words. English is fun and challenging.

We have visits scheduled this year to work with Royal Shakespeare Company and hope to repeat our bookshop visit – where our students choose books they want to read and share with our library.

To support development of reading skills, most of our students compete using Sparx Reader. This can be accessed at home and in school. They also have at least one face to face personal reading session every week with a book selected either for pleasure or for development.
